Cost Accountant

Job Summary

The Cost Accountant performs advanced cost accounting analyses to compare estimated costs to actual costs and prepare a variety of budget reports. In addition, he/she is responsible to monitor product pricing, reviewing, and updating regularly.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Estimates the cost of new and proposed products and services.
  • Analyzes changes to the products and services.
  • Prepares accounting documentation such as financial statements and journal entries.
  • Provides detailed reports including breakdowns of project costs and forecasts.
  • Documents data and statistical procedures used in conducting cost analysis.
  • Assists in preparation of the annual budget to determine standard costs.
  • Supervises members of the accounting team.
  • Gathers and compiles standard cost information and maintains database concerning expenses.
  • Maintains costing system and standard cost sets.
  • Monitors raw material pricing, reviewing and updating regularly.
  • Develops systems and procedures for accumulation systems and/or cost accounting functions.
  • Determines and calculates labor and overhead costs.
  • Predicts, plans, and records variable costs such as purchases of raw material, labor, and operation costs.
  • Reviews and analyzes actual costs to identify inaccuracies.
  • Prepares necessary departmental and company-wide budgeting reports.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and reports actual product profitability.
  • Performs month-end and year-end closings with assistance.
  • Determines and recommends cost-effective solutions.
  • Provides product sample costs upon request.
  • Is reliable and punctual in reporting for work as scheduled.
  • Maintains professionalism at all times.
  • Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with close attention to detail
  • Ability to manage confidential information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software as well as accounting software
  • Thorough understanding of accounting procedures
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Resilient with a positive attitude
  • Self-motivated and solid work ethic
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • At least three years of related experience in cost accounting
  • CPA preferred
Physical Requirements
  • Continuous sitting, bending, pushing/pulling
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
